New Zealand enters into a special time of year from now till February, when it is basically SHUT!
In the Northern hemisphere, journalists have what they call the ‘silly season’ where there is little news through the summer: But in New Zealand we have summer and Christmas rolled into one, so for January almost everything is very quiet and people go on holiday. We will be having a big family Christmas followed by a major holiday, to celebrate Noah’s upcoming 18th birthday with a trip to Hawaii and Los Angeles. This means we will not be posting so regularly through the next month, although there will be updates at least weekly.
We hope you get some time to relax over the holiday season, when you might like to think about clot look-a-likes!
This was the title of our first frivolous post when we started the site in May and unfortunately I managed to delete it! Luckily, it inspired one of our readers to send some clot-look-a-like photos and I’ve found a few others with a Christmas theme.
Flower Clot
The Coagulation Conversation site uses hydrangeas as it’s cover photo for their clot like appearance, but the clot-like pohutukawas are in bloom in New Zealand now and are known as the New Zealand Christmas tree.
Pavlova Clot
Pavlova is a traditional Christmas dessert in the hot (we wish) weather of New Zealand. There is a lot of debate over whether it was invented in New Zealand or Australia. The meringue should be crisp outside and meringue like inside and served with slightly sharp tasting fruit, kiwi or raspberries (which look more clot like are ideal). Here’s a recipe from NZ.
Car Clot
sent by a reader, a beautiful classic car
Building Clot
Another picture from a reader. I think the columns are a great representation of clot structure!
Cake Clot
Lamingtons are a popular choice for NZ picnics over the holiday season.
Lamingtons are an Australasian speciality, (again with debate as to whether they’re from Australia or NZ) a sponge cake covered with chocolate or raspberry jam (I chose the jam here, of course!) then coated in coconut.
Sun-burn Clot
On the whole New Zealander’s are very aware of the danger of too much sun and schools insist on children wearing sunscreen and have a ‘no hat, no play’ policy. The sun here is very vicious and it’s easy to get caught out. Paul is especially susceptible to sun-burn on the top of his head!
Hat Clot
Let’s finish with some clot look-a-like festive headwear!
Happy Christmas!
