If you think of coagulation related jewelry, you probably just consider medical alert bracelets. But you could also celebrate your coagulation history with jewelry that looks like a snake or vampire bat, (linked to coagulation because they both produce natural anticoagulants) or drops of blood.
Do you think it’s odd to remember medical events through jewellery? I quite like it: I have a Pandora Christmas tree bead to remind me of the Christmas when our son Noah spent 10 days in hospital with a perforated bowel; it was a very significant life event for us.
Here are 10 jewelry items; 3 medical alert , 2 blood drop, 2 snake, 2 vampire and and 1 crazy other idea. Which do you like or dislike most? I love number 3 and hate number 8!

1. Stainless Steel Medical Bracelet
This is what I consider a traditional medical alert bracelet. It’s a chunky stainless steel chain bracelet which comes with free engraving. US$13.99
2. Silicon Medical Bracelet
If you are happy that anyone who glances at your wrist can guess at your medica history then you might like this trendy medical alert, black, understated silicon bracelet suitable for both men and women on warfarin. US$13.95
3. Beaded Medical Bracelet
This is my favourite of the medical alert bracelets, in fact of all the jewelry. It looks less like a medical alert bracelet and more like a fashion bracelet with a plus, as it has lots of multi-coloured beads and a medical disk you can have engraved. US$29.95.
4. Blood Drop Pendant
Does it make you more or less likely to buy this pendant now I have likened it to a drop of blood? I think it’s a fairly sophisticated pendant necklace with an interesting shape, blood resemblance aside! US$35
5. Blood Drop Earrings
Silver and dark red drop earrings; an artistic interpretation of blood drops or simply nicely shaped amber earrings! US$60.98. You could wear these with the pendant as a set.
If you were feeling really wealthy, do you think a friend recovering from a pulmonary embolism, PE, would appreciate this set?
6. Snake Bracelet
This ornate snake crystal bracelet is an amazing piece of artwork. Very chunky. I can’t decide if I love or hate it, but I think it would look great with Egyptian dress at a costume party. US$23.99.
7. Snake earrings
These are actually not called earrings, and there are not two but just one ‘ear cuff wrap‘, a new term for me. It’s rather bigger than an ear ring, called ‘gothic punk’ and I think I might be rather uncomfortable to have a snake curling around my ear. US$2.99
8. Vampire Coffin Necklace
The full title is actually ‘Gothic Bat Wings and Vampire Coffin Necklace‘ US$14.99.
I hate it and cannot imagine anyone liking this necklace, but it got a very good review on Amazon from someone “obsessed with vampires and coffins”. So if this sounds like you, you’ll love it!
9. Vampire pendant
This Swarovski vampire pendant has a blood red stone in middle. If you’re a Goth and take anticoagulants, it would surely be perfect! US$12.26
10. Blood Drip Choker
This is really a joke entry; a latex blood drip choker. More suited to a Halloween party than everyday life, I suspect! US$6.50
I’d love to hear your thoughts about wearing medical alert bracelets or other coagulation jewelry. It would be great to see some photos of what you wear.

What a great idea these jewellery items are, I only ever knew of the medic alert braclets so thank you for bringing these to my attention.
However, how do we find the cost in NZ $ please.
Also, I no longer take Warfarin but am on the anti coagulant Dabigatran so can I still get these newsletters?
